Robotics

At Metro North, our Robotics Team consists of 3rd grade students that collaborate to learn about robotics, build a robot & compete in robotics competitions representing our school! Participating in our MN Robotics team exposes students to real-world engineering, problem solving, coding and creativity. 

This team is a commitment, just like any sport.  Students work together building a robot, practicing for the competition, rebuilding, practicing some more, and then FINALLY competing.  Students are expected to participate in each practice unless they are sick, or it is an excused absence from school.

Practices occur after school from 3:00-5:00.  Practices will occur on Monday and Friday. Calendars are provided at the beginning of the month.  Our robotics season will last through February.  Parents must pick-up students after practice.

Competitions usually occur on Saturdays.  Attending competitions and participating in our robotics league allows us to put our skills to the test and allows us to learn from others and improve.  

Our equipment and registration fees are provided through a generous grant from TechPoint Foundation.  Each student is responsible for purchasing a MN Robotics t-shirt, providing snacks on his/her designated snack day, bringing his/her lunch to competition, and paying for any optional purchases at competitions.

Unfortunately, the number of team members is limited due to equipment.  Team members are required to complete an application and try-out for the team.  The try-out process requires students to participate in several tasks that require creative, critical thinking, problem solving, focusing and working collaboratively on tough problems in small group settings.  All students are notified of the results of the try-outs through a letter.
